King County Library System 2006 Annual Report

Financial Report
With a budget funded primarily from property taxes, it is imperative that the library system is fiscally responsible at all times. We continually operate within the 1% limitation on property tax revenue and the ending balance of the general fund continues to be better than projected. For 2006, expenditures were 7% below budget, resulting in an ending fund balance of $20.3 million. The primary expenses of the library system are salaries and benefits, books and materials and facilities and maintenance.

Funding from capital bonds also went toward library improvement projects. In 2006, KCLS spent $8.3 million of capital funds on library construction and renovation projects.
The KCLS Foundation received $578,463 in donations in 2006. A total of $442,905 was distributed in support of library programs and $110,513 was spent on administration and fundraising costs. For more information, please visit www.kcls.org/foundation.
