Community Studies
Each year KCLS chooses community library service areas to study in depth.
Each community is reviewed approximately every 10 years based on a schedule
of studying 4-5 libraries per year. Since the passage of our capital facilities
bond issue, we are coordinating the studies with our Long Range Capital Plan
(2004-2015). Our focus is on the communities slated for the construction of
new libraries in the earliest phase of the plan.
The community studies scheduled for 2008 are:
Auburn (March), Woodinville (May), Redmond (August), and Foster & Tukwila (November).
Each study culminates in a written report and an oral presentation to the KCLS
Board of Trustees. The Board holds its monthly meeting at the site that is
studied. The community study process involves identifying each library’s
service area, collecting school and demographic statistics, analyzing the community
and developing recommendations for improved library services and collections.
