Our Vision

The following vision statement was adopted by the King County Library System Board of Trustees on June 19, 2002 and was revised on April 26, 2005.

The King County Library System (KCLS) recognizes, respects and promotes each individual’s uniqueness and strives to help bring awareness and understanding to the conditions, expressions and experiences of different groups. As the heart of the many communities KCLS serves, the Library System acknowledges and commits itself to promoting awareness of and sensitivity to human differences. KCLS is inclusive and understanding of our colleagues and of the communities we serve, and we seek out others to join us on this journey.

The King County Library System (KCLS) is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity in the workplace. KCLS prohibits discrimination with respect to the hiring or promotion of individuals, conditions of employment, or any other aspect of employment on the basis of age, race/ethnicity, gender, language, cultural beliefs, varying ability/disabilities, sexual orientation, physical appearance, socio-economic level, job classification, religion, level of education, national origin and marital status.

KCLS commits itself to welcome, honor and respect people from all walks of life. KCLS supports diversity by reflecting it in our staff and volunteers, collections, policies, programs and services, displays, public information, internal communications, buildings and artwork, electronic resources and outreach efforts.
