Community Celebrates Black Diamond Library Opening!
Even if it wasn’t bright red, the new Black Diamond Library isn’t hard to locate. Just ask the 150 people who gathered on the morning of Saturday, May 24, to celebrate the opening of the new library.
As community members, local dignitaries and library staff gathered, the Miho and Diego Duo entertained the crowd with Latin music. Once the ribbon cutting ceremony got under way, KCLS Director Bill Ptacek welcomed everyone.
Several dignitaries addressed the crowd and expressed their excitement for the new library, including Black Diamond Mayor Pro Tem Geoff Bowie and two members of the KCLS Board of Trustees, Richard Eadie and Rob Spitzer.
“This new library is a product of so many people,” said Rob Spitzer.
Sian Roberts, with Miller-Hull Partnership, recalled spending a day with the Friends of the Library members when the building was just beginning to be designed. They met at the site and together staked out the location of the new 5,000 square foot library.
“We have a building to be proud of,” said Cory Olson, President of the Black Diamond Friends of the Library.
After all the dignitaries had an opportunity to say a few words about the project, Bill Ptacek invited all the children to help cut the ribbon. Once the doors opened, community members were greeted by Dewey and Sketch and enjoyed refreshments and giveaways, including book bags, coloring books, bookmarks and buttons with a rendering of the new library.
