New Carnation Library Construction Expected this Summer
Construction of the new 5,000 square foot Carnation Library is temporarily delayed until a building permit is received from the city of Carnation. Construction of the new library is anticipated to get under way this summer.
The project contractor, BNBuilders, submitted an application for a building permit in October 2007. At the time, it was determined that KCLS would complete additional frontage improvements before the building permit would be issued, such as sidewalks and new storm water runoff tanks under the existing parking lot.
Recently, the city engineer has determined that additional street frontage improvements must be completed before the building permit is issued. The improvements are currently being designed to meet the city’s requirements. It is anticipated that this will be completed in early June and that demolition of the existing building may begin in late June.
The Carnation Library will remain open to the public until the building permit is received. Once construction of the new library is under way, the library will close and a temporary location will open.
