Residents gather to celebrate the opening of Burien Town Square.New Burien Library Opens!


If attendance is any indication, residents of Burien are excited about their new library! More than 1,000 people gathered on Saturday, June 13, to celebrate the grand opening of Burien Town Square. The development includes the new 32,000 square foot Burien Library, Burien City Hall, Town Square Park and Urban Partners’ condominium and retail building. The Burien Library and City Hall occupy a shared building, with the library on the lower two floors and the city hall on the third floor.

As people took their seats for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Highline High School High Flying Pirates Marching Band marched down 152nd Street and performed for the crowd. In addition to about 250 community members, the sun even made an appearance at the groundbreaking that was held on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 20, to celebrate the start of construction for the new Lake Hills Library and Shopping Center.

As residents, local dignitaries and library staff took seats, Conan McLemore, a Page at Bellevue Regional Library, entertained guests with a few songs on his saxophone. Bill Ptacek welcomed everyone to the groundbreaking, saying that the project has been in progress for many years. He explained that the developer, Cosmos development Company, is beginning construction of the first phase of the project, which will include the shell for the new 10,000 square foot library.
 
“We will be a long-term tenant and are excited to be here,” Ptacek said. Learn more


500 Residents Attend the Carnation Library Opening!Carnation Library Opening Celebration

With a turnout of more than 500 people, about a fourth of the city of Carnation attended the opening of the new Carnation Library on Saturday, January 31.

As community members, local dignitaries and library staff gathered outside the new library, two small ensembles from Tolt Middle School entertained the crowd with a few songs. KCLS Director Bill Ptacek welcomed everyone to the new library, saying the newly completed 5,000 square foot building was a team effort among many people.

Carnation Mayor Mike Flowers thanked KCLS, saying it seemed like the community had just gathered for the groundbreaking event.

“Thank you to KCLS for bringing this great facility here,” Flowers said. “This is a great place to live and raise a family and we will enjoy the library for years to come.” Read more

A sunny day in December was the perfect setting for the Sammamish Library Groundbreaking. To celebrate the start of construction for the new 19,500 square foot library, more than 250 community members, local dignitaries and library staff gathered at the site of the new library n the afternoon of Thursday, December 4.

Greenbridge LibraryNew Greenbridge Library Opens!


You can’t go wrong with 60 kindergarteners and 20 second graders, especially at a library opening event. To celebrate the opening of the new Greenbridge Library, students from White Center Heights Elementary got the crowd in a festive mood by singing their “apple” song and the “library boogie.”

More than 350 people gathered for the Greenbridge Library and YWCA Learning Center opening celebration on Wednesday, November 5, 11am. The 2,300 square foot Greenbridge Library is located in leased space at the new 10,000 square foot YWCA Learning Center together with classrooms, a computer learning lab and a career development center.

Newly Expanded Woodmont Library Opens
Woodmont Library Opening Celebration


It’s been closed for about a year, but people still remember how to find their way to the Woodmont Library! More than 200 people gathered on the morning of Saturday, July 26, to celebrate the opening of the newly expanded and renovated community building!

Three harpists from Suzuki Harp Northwest provided music as people gathered and took seats in front of the library for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“This library more than any other is a library of the community,” said KCLS Director Bill Ptacek, who facilitated the program. “You will be amazed by how we have transformed and changed this space.”

Carnation Library Groundbreaking Draws 250

If there was a maximum occupancy for the Carnation Library groundbreaking, it likely would have been exceeded! More than 250 people, including about 90 Girl Scouts from Camp River Ranch, gathered at the site of the new library to celebrate the start of construction on the afternoon of Thursday, July 24.

As community members took seats, the Budget Funeral Band entertained the crowd with some kid-friendly songs. Children wore small yellow hard hats and were given small shovels so they could participate in the groundbreaking.

KCLS Director Bill Ptacek facilitated the program and several dignitaries addressed the crowd, including Carnation Mayor Mike Flowers and De’Sean Quinn, King County Local Government Relations Liaison. Read More

 

Muckleshoot Library Opening CelebrationNew Muckleshoot Library Opens to the Community!

If attendance is any indication, the Muckleshoot community was eagerly awaiting their new library. More than 150 people gathered on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 25, to celebrate the opening of the new 6,000 square foot building.

KCLS Director Bill Ptacek welcomed everyone to the ribbon cutting ceremony, after which a short blessing was led by Tribal member Laurie Starr-Williams. Several local dignitaries addressed the crowd, including Charlotte Williams, chair of the Muckleshoot Tribal Council, who said the community has seen the library progress the past two years.
