Lake Forest Park: Monthly Update Archives


January 2012
The renovated and expanded Lake Forest Park Library reopened on Saturday, Jan. 7, to a crowd of more than 200 people. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees toured the library and enjoyed a magic show and refreshments.

December 2011
Construction is nearing completion and library staff are preparing the interior of the library to open to the community on Saturday, January 7, 9:30am. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, residents are invited to tour the building and enjoy refreshments and a magic show.

Construction continues on the library expansion project, with substantial completion anticipated in late 2011. Once construction is completed, work will begin to prepare the interior of the library to reopen to the community. A temporary location for library services is available in the mall, across from the current library.

CDK Construction Services has been selected as the contractor for the Lake Forest Park Library expansion project. In preparation for construction to start, the current library will close July 16, 5pm, and a temporary location will open July 18 in the space formerly occupied by the Angler Fish Store.

May 2011
The architect team continues to finalize the floor plan while waiting for the additional square footage to be turned over by the building landlord. Bids were received in mid-May and construction is anticipated to begin in mid-2011.

A second public meeting was held on November 16 to present designs to community members and solicit input on the project.

October 2010
The architect team continues to finalize the floor plan and KCLS is awaiting the additional square footage to be turned over by the building landlord. A second public meeting to review the design for the expanded library is set for Tuesday, November 16 at 6:30pm at Lake Forest Park City Hall Council Chambers. The project is anticipated to go out to bid in mid-December, with construction starting in January 2011.

September 2010

Now that KCLS has signed an agreement to lease an additional 600 square feet of space for the Library expansion project, architects are revising floor plans to reflect the additional space. The revised plans will be presented to the public at a future meeting.

April 2010
More than 60 residents attended a public meeting on April 1 to learn about the Library expansion and redesign project. KCLS recently signed an agreement with mall management company Madison Marquette to lease an additional 600 square feet of space adjacent to the Library once the facility’s restrooms and escalator are repaired. Floor plans will be revised to reflect the additional square footage.

March 2010
The space plan for the expanded library was approved by the Facility Design Committee and was presented to Library staff on March 12. The architect team will draft the construction documents as well as the furniture and palette selections. Recently, an additional 900 square feet of prime retail space immediately adjacent to the Library became available and is now under consideration for inclusion in the expansion project. To allow community members to review and offer input about the design of the library, a public meeting is set for April 1, 6:30pm at Lake Forest Park City Hall Council Chambers.

February 2010
The planning and design process is underway for the expansion and renovation project. Preliminary space plans are completed and the first of two public meetings will be held Thursday, April 1 at the Lake Forest Park Council Chambers. KCLS is contracting with architectural consultants Hutteball & Oremus to develop construction documents upon final approval of the plans.

January 2010
Space planning and schematic design has begun for the expansion and renovation of the Lake Forest Park Library. The lease is finalized and KCLS is adding 1,150 square feet to the current space. A public meeting will soon be scheduled.

August 2009
KCLS officials signed a letter of intent to add 1,159 square feet to the existing library location at Lake Forest Park Towne Centre.

April 2008
KCLS has been exploring possibilities for expanding and relocating the Lake Forest Park Library at Lake Forest Park Towne Centre. The current lease is up in July and KCLS would like to locate the Library in a more prominent and visible space in the community.
