Library2Go! Mini-Bookmobiles
Details:
To bring more books and library resources to people in the community, five new outreach vehicles hit the streets in August 2010. The vehicles expanded services already provided by KCLS' other outreach vehicles. These five Library2Go! vehicles are all presently outfitted as mini-bookmobiles and stop at childcare centers, low-income housing and senior centers each week in KCLS' service area. The vehicles rotate between KCLS' 47 libraries, with different library staff using the vehicles each week for outreach in their community. Each of these 2009 Dodge Sprinter vans holds approximately 1,500 items available for check out. The vehicles are also equipped with wheelchair lifts. The Library2Go! mini-bookmobiles were designed with several green features, including solar panels on the roof that recharge the batteries and interiors furnished with recycled materials.
- Project Status: Service started in August 2010.
- Vendor: Specialty Vehicle Services, LLC.
