Books To Grow On

A KCLS Service to Bring Young Children and Books Together

Books To Grow On theme kits are filled with surefire books to read-aloud, cassette tapes, videos, and other materials on a variety of curriculum topics and are waiting for you to check out. These theme kits are perfect for child care providers, teachers and busy parents to use right out of the box with preschool-age children. Check out the Books To Grow On Theme Menu, including the complete contents and curriculum sheets.

How to Place a "Hold" on a Theme Kit

By phone:
Call your local KCLS Community Library or the Answer Line 425-462-9600 or 800-462-9600, and ask the librarian to place a "hold" on a Books To Grow On theme kit.

At the library:
Stop in at your local Community Library and place a "hold" on the Books To Grow On theme kit you want. Theme kits are listed in The Catalog by doing a "Title Search" and typing in "Books To Grow On" or "Books To Grow On for Toddlers." When looking for a specific theme, use the following format: "Books To Grow On Apples" or "Books To Grow On for Toddlers Animals."

Remember:
When placing your "hold," indicate the Community Library where you'd like to pick up the theme kit. You will then be notified when it is available. Theme kits check out for three weeks, and can be renewed if there are no holds on the item.

More Information on Books to Grow On

What if a theme kit is not available when I need it?
Branch libraries have copies of the Books To Grow On curriculum sheets listing theme kit contents, fingerplays and other activities. Ask the children's librarian for a copy of a theme kit curriculum sheet. Check to see if your branch has some of the titles listed. If not, then place "holds" on the individual titles.

The Books to Grow On curriculum sheets are also available at Books To Grow On Theme Menu. You can view the fingerplays and other activities online, print copies for yourself, and then place "holds" on individual titles.

Also, try choosing a related theme (for example, instead of "Families," choose "Grandparents," "Aunts and Uncles," "Mothers," or "Fathers.").
