Fairwood Library

Artwork at the Fairwood Library


The dragon stuffed animal in the Children’s area was purchased by the Friends of the Fairwood Library around 2003. 

Gaylen Hansen’s painting in the front entryway “On a Sunny Morning the Kernal Rides Out” was purchased by the King County Arts Commission and installed on May 20, 1987. Mr. Hansen is a famous painter who taught art at Washington State University for 25 years and his paintings have been shown at the Seattle Art Museum.

The landscaping and stone sculpture in front of the library is done by the O’Brien Garden Club.

The bulb and sunflower planting on the grass strip near the parking lot entrance is done by a local Senior Girl Scout Troop.

The plasma screen near the Teen area displays rotating electronic images.

The alphabet mobile in the Children’s area was designed by KCLS Architecture and Interior Design Coordinator, David Scott-Risner.

The wood sculpture of the head of John Ferdinand Benson, namesake of Benson Hill (Spring Glen) area  and pioneer from 1868-1933 was created by sculptor, Edward Merrill.  This sculpture was donated by a patron.

The plastic panels at entrance to Children’s area were designed by KCLS Architecture and Interior Design Coordinator, David Scott-Risner.

Some of the prints in the Children’s area were framed by local Renton artist, Britt Peterson  of the Renton Arts Guild. Ms. Peterson hand makes the frames and paints them in colors and patterns to match the prints. These frames were paid for by the Friends of the Fairwood Library.

Some of the other prints in the Children’s area were paid for and framed by the Friends of the Fairwood Library.

The Japanese doll named Rie in the glass case in the Children’s area was a donated by the citizens of Japan through Mukogawa Gakuin on March  2, 1995.  The doll is meant to be an ambassador of lasting friendship between the library and Japan.
