    DDES is responsible for the review of land development proposals, including zoning variances and reclassification, drainage plans, sensitive areas and wetlands, surface water design variances, etc.

    The Metropolitan King County Council has 9 districts covering the 2,200 square miles of King County. Check your voter's registration card for the number of your Council district. The area around the Fairwood Library is served by the following council members:

    Valley Medical Center (Public Hospital District No. 1 of King County)
    The Hospital District includes the cities of Kent, Renton, and two-thirds of Tukwila. It is the oldest of the 52 hospital districts in the state of Washington and operates Valley Medical Center, serving greater South King County.

Community Colleges:

    Washington's Community and Technical College Act of 1991 provides for a sate system of community and technical colleges separate from both the public secondary schools and four-year institutions. The act requires that the colleges "offer an open door to every citizen, regardless of his or her academic background or experiences, at a cost normally within his or her economic means."
