Computers & Computer Classes
The Fairwood Library has 30 public access computers that offer internet access and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. There are 8 are "30 minute" stations, 8 "1 hour" stations, 6 "30 minute" children's filtered stations, and 8 "2 hour" laptops. Individuals with a King County Library System library card are allowed on the computer at Fairwood up to 2 hours per day and are allowed to print for free up to 75 pages per week. Additional computers in the library offer exclusive access to the library catalog and to the KCLS databases. Librarians are available to help individuals use these resources. Patrons may reserve an internet computer by calling the library, 425-226-0522, or using the online Reserve a PC (link to ) page from the KCLS website. There is a 10 minute grace period for computer reservations.
The Fairwood library offers wireless connection to ours server for persons with laptops and other wireless devices.
Computer Classes
The Fairwood Library offers free computer classes on the Internet, Microsoft Word, or more. The schedule varies from month to month. Please contact the library for more information at 425-226-0522 or check here.
Meeting Space and Study Room
The Fairwood Library has a large meeting room that can be divided in half to accommodate two meetings. The large (full) meeting room accommodates about 70 people and the smaller (half) room accommodates about 35 people. The meeting rooms can be scheduled by members of the public who comply with our meeting room policy.
The Fairwood Library has one small study room available. The study room may be reserved up to one week in advance by calling the library at 425-226-0522 or signing up in person at the Information Desk. Individuals are limited to using the room up to 2 hours per day.
Equipment
Typewriter
The Fairwood Library has a typewriter available in the study room. The room may be reserved by calling the library at 425-226-0522 or signing up in person at the Information Desk. If the study room is reserved, the typewriter can be moved to a table in the library.
Study Zone
Need homework help? Get it at the library. Volunteers will be on hand to help students with their homework. No registration is required. The schedule of times can be found at http://www.kcls.org/studyzone/
Talk Time
Come to our free English conversation group. Practice speaking English in a fun, casual environment. No registration required. Come alone or bring a friend. Saturdays from 10am-noon.
English as a Second Language classes
Ocassionally the library offers ESL classes. Please call the library for more information 425-226-0522. The library also has an ESL collection of books, DVDs, and CDs.
Microfilm Reader
The Fairwood Library has a microfilm reader. It costs 10 cents per page to print.
Copy Machines
There are two copy machines. It costs 10 cents per page to make a copy.
Equipment for Check-Out
The Fairwood Library has a slide projector , projection screen, overhead projector, and opaque projector for use by the public. The opaque projector may only be used in the library in the meeting room, but other equipment may be checked out for a 24 hour loan period.
Services for Children
Our large children’s collection includes picture books, easy readers, chapter books, folk and fairy tales, encyclopedias, magazines, comic books, DVDs, CD-Roms, books on CD, music, board books, and non-fiction books. For parents and caregivers, the library offers resources on parenting, home-school materials, help with selecting books for your child, a Child Care listings notebook, and more.
The Children’s area also has four children’s game computers. The children’s librarians offer story times for babies and children aged 1-6 and their caregivers. See the schedule.

World Language Collection
The Fairwood Library carries newspapers, magazines, books, children’s picture books, and DVDs in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Korean, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
Career Center
The Fairwood Library carries books on writing resumes, preparing for an interview, finding colleges and scholarships, and career ideas.
Eye Glasses and Hearing Aid Recycling
In the lobby of the Fairwood Library there is a box sponsored by the Lions Club to recycle hearing aids and eyeglasses. They will be sent to those in need in developing nations. For more information about the program, go to http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/vision_eyeglass_recycling.shtml
Consumer Center
The Fairwood Library carries Consumer Reports magazine, Consumer’s Digest magazine, and Consumer’s Checkbook magazine. There are also NADA car value guides, and books on buying a new or used car.
Financial Newsletters
The Fairwood Library subscribes to many financial and investment newsletters such as Value Line, Standard & Poor’s The Outlook, and Dow Theory of Letters.
Master Gardeners
Master Gardeners are volunteers who are sponsored and trained in plant problem solving by Washington State University Cooperative Extension. On Saturdays they set up a table at the library to answer questions about plant problems. Please call the library for the current schedule, 425-226-0522.
