Thank you for your interest in our English as a Second Language (ESL) and Literacy Volunteer Tutor Program. For immigrants and refugees to the United States knowing the English language is the key that unlocks many doors. It means being able to communicate with your child’s teacher, it means getting on the right bus, it means describing symptoms to a doctor, participating at work, and it means independence and self-sufficiency.

Because of caring and dedicated people like you we are able to offer Talk Time Conversation classes in a number of our branch libraries.

What is the ESL/Literacy Volunteer Program, or Talk Time Conversation classes?
This program provides volunteer facilitators that work with adult immigrants and refugees in the process of improving their English literacy and speaking skills. The classes provide a comfortable informal environment for students to express themselves and practice English.

Minimum Commitment:
Volunteers are asked to commit to two hours a week for six months, with flexibility built in for holidays and vacations. Talk Time Conversation class training of five hours is provided by the King County Library System.

Please contact Mary Jane Vinella 425-369-3454 or mvinella@kcls.org to apply.
