Background on the Future Services Project
The Future Services Project is a long-term project by the King County
Library System to identify and meet future needs and challenges while
maintaining the high quality of service that our patrons expect. Our
strategic plan will chart and guide our course.
KCLS has completed a draft plan for public review and comment in January through four community focus groups and an online survey. We want hear from as many patrons as possible to ensure that the plan we are refining meets there needs.
The focus group and survey results will be presented—along with
the draft plan--to the KCLS board of directors for review and approval.
The focus group schedule and online survey are available at www.kcls.org/futureservices/
Phase 2: 2007
A cross-disciplinary team of KCLS staff has been developing a strategic action plan to address and respond to the evolving needs identified during phase 1, and sustain highest possible quality service within unavoidable economic constraints. Phase 1: 2006
A team of KCLS staff took an in-depth look at the future in order to identify the key strategic drivers that influence patrons’ needs and expectations:
- Changing Demographics –aging Baby Boomers, the new Millennial Generation, and growing diversity in King County
- Rapidly changing technologies for communication, information storage and access
- Fiscal limitations imposed by the property tax cap
