Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes (child)
by Eleanor Coerr

Twelve-year-old Sadako Sasaki was a hibakusha, a survivor of the atom bombings at Hiroshima. When Sadako was later diagnosed with a cancer caused by those bombings, she knew that she had only a short time to live. During that time, she started an origami movement for peace, showing that a young person can face her own death with grace and a sense of greater purpose. Ages 8-12 |
