Book Description
"Marjane Satrapi was ten years old in 1980, the year that it became obligatory to wear the veil at her school in Tehran, Iran. Daughter of liberal political activists, Marji relates the years of her life between ages six and fourteen in a series of comic book illustrations: the schools, the demonstrations, the food and clothing shortages, and the rebellions--large and small--against the Islamic Republic. You might expect that a book about growing up during the Islamic Revolution would be sad, scary, and awful. This book is all of those things. You might expect that a comic book is funny, silly, and irreverent--and this book is all of those things as well. This book is not just about war or religion. It's about people. Most importantly, this is a story about life. Take the Persepolis Challenge: read the first page. You won't stop reading until you reach the end!"
