500 Years on the Maps of Europe
From the Museum of Central Finland, this site provides a collection
of historical maps of Finland and Scandinavia. Maps date from 1470 to
present day and include text descriptions and explanations. Click on
maps to see larger view.

From BBC Online, this site provides timelines for Britain, Scotland,
Northern Ireland, and Wales. Timelines run from Neolithic and Bronze
Ages (4000-750 BC) to Post WWII (1945 onwards).

Four different maps showing the route of the Silk Road from China to
Rome are provided by Angier School in Massachusetts.

The University of Texas provides full-color maps for many countries
and regions of the world, including a section titled Historical Maps.
Some of the maps take a while to load - note the size of the file. Also
includes links to a wide variety of other cartographic reference sources.
