BOOK OF THE WEEK
Bears on Hemlock Mountain
Alice Dalgliesh
Young Jonathan lives on one side of Hemlock Mountain, safe with his family. He has lots of uncles and aunts and cousins and when it’s time for a big family dinner, his mother decides they must borrow the biggest iron pot you ever laid eyes on from his Aunt Emma to make stew to feed everyone. The problem is--Aunt Emma lives on the other side of Hemlock Mountain and Jonathan, who needs to go and collect the pot, wonders if there are bears on Hemlock Mountain? Bravely Jonathan sets out alone to retrieve the pot, repeating over and over: “There are no bears on Hemlock Mountain, no bears at all!” Will he make it to the other side of the mountain and back? And who will he meet along the way?
