How to Apply

Dear Applicant,

Thank you very much for your interest in Literacy*AmeriCorps! Our program is part of AmeriCorps, a national community service initiative. We offer full-time service positions for members to provide literacy instruction to adults and families throughout Seattle & King County. For their service, full-time members receive an $12,100 annual stipend, health care, valuable training and experience, and a $5,350 education award to pay student loans or apply toward tuition. Positions are 11 month commitments, beginning in September of 2012.

Members serve Mondays-Fridays at one of our literacy partner service sites, such as colleges, libraries, education centers, and multi-service community agencies. We are a team-based program and spend some Fridays doing group activities, team training and community service projects.

Here is how to apply:

Step 1:
Look over position descriptions and service sites to see if our program is right for you. If so, then go to www.americorps.gov, click "Join AmeriCorps" and follow the directions. Our program is Literacy*AmeriCorps Seattle/King County.

Step 2:
The program coordinator will use the application to judge if the applicant is a good fit for the program, and if so, will make contact by phone or email.

Step 3:
Selected applicants will be invited for first interviews. First interviews will be conducted with the program coordinator either in person or by phone.

Step 4:
Selected applicants will then be referred to our service sites for second interviews. Most of our service sites interview multiple candidates for their position(s), so be patient. Once a site supervisor is interested in offering a position to a candidate, the candidate will be contacted by the site.
Positions fill quickly, so apply as soon as possible.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions at all about the program. Thanks again for your interest!

Literacy*AmeriCorps Program Director
