Author Salons
Literary Lions "Author Salons" offer you, and your friends, a rare opportunity to share food, wine and conversation with a renowned Northwest author. Set in a private home or intimate venue, guests will have the opportunity to spin stories, be inspired and delve into the authors’ experience over great food and informal conversation. Available at the Literary Lions Gala, salon tickets will be sold for a fixed price and the number of tickers is limited. You may purchase single or group tickets or buy out the entire salon. Night at the Library

Saturday, May 4 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm - $100 per person

Come for a night at the Bellevue Library with children’s author Bonny Becker!  Bonny will read a bedtime story to our young guests (ideal for ages 4-6 years). In A Bedtime for Bear, Bear must have absolute quiet when he goes to bed but the effervescent Mouse finds it terribly hard to be as quiet as a … well you know.  A Bedtime for Bear received an Oppenheim Platinum Best Book Award for 2010 and a 2011 Crystal Kite Award.  Each child will receive a copy of one of Bonny’s books, hot chocolate and a bedtime snack and a bear of his/her own.  Children may come in their jammies!   Parents accompanying a child guest will be provisioned with sparkling wine and Fran’s chocolates.  Event is limited to twenty (20) guests.

 

An Evening with Nancy Pearl

Friday, May 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm - $150 per person

Be part of an exclusive party with everyone’s favorite librarian, Nancy Pearl and take home a signed copy of her book Book Lust. Nancy is an NPR commentator and writes a library-themed column for Publishers Weekly. Hosted by King County Library System Director Bill Ptacek and his wife Margaret at their lovely home in Bellevue, the event features an array of wonderful wines, hearty hors d’oeuvres and engaging conversation. Event is limited to eight (8) guests.

 

Meet Engaging Author Jonathan Evison

Tuesday, June 4 from 4:00-6:00 pm - $100 per person

Spend an evening enjoying sumptuous Greek specialties and great conversation with best-selling author Jonathan Evison. Johnny is the author of West of Here and All About Lulu, which won the Washington State Book Award. Hosted by KCLS Foundation Board Member, Karen True, the event takes place in the private wood-paneled dining room at the Pub at Third Place in Seattle. Guests will receive a signed copy of Johnny’s latest book The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving.  The event will accommodate eight (8) guests.

 

Gala in the Garden

Saturday, June 15 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm - $100 per person

Here is your chance to ask Ciscoe that question that has been in the back of your mind for ages.  Ciscoe Morris, one of the most recognized gardening experts in Puget Sound, regular columnist in The Seattle Times, co-host of the weekly Gardening with Ciscoe television show on King 5’s Evening Magazine and host of a weekly radio broadcast on New Talk KIRO FM, will be the guest author at a Salon at the award-winning home of KCLS Foundation Board Member Ann Ewel and her husband, Jim. Enjoy delicious appetizers, wine and hand-crafted sorbets. Each guest will receive a copy of Ciscoe’s book, Ask Ciscoe. Event is limited to ten (10) guests.

 

Chat over Coffee … and More!

Monday, June 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm - $150 per person

Join Howard Behar, former president of Starbucks Coffee Company and the author of It's Not About The Coffee: Leadership Principles from a Life at Starbucks at the Capitol Hill home of KCLS Foundation Board Member, Tom Barr and his wife Maria. Howard grew the Starbucks from 28 stores to more than 400 by the time he was named president of Starbucks Coffee International in 1995. Under his leadership, Starbucks opened its first location in Tokyo in 1996 and introduced the Starbucks brand across Asia and the United Kingdom. Each attendee will receive a signed copy of Howard’s book. Event is limited to fourteen (14) guests.

 

Ladies Book Club with Kristin and Megan

Saturday, June 22 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm - $100 per person

Twenty (20) guests will enjoy this private event featuring best-selling authors Kristin Hannah and Megan Chance.  Guests will enjoy a delicious brunch, hosted by eatdrink by Eric Bauer at the Governor’s Room of Hotel Deca in Seattle’s University District.  Each attendee will receive a copy of Megan’s new book Bone Riverand Kristin’s best-selling novel Home Front.

 

Food for Thought

Join Ethan Stowell, chef-owner of seven celebrated Seattle restaurants (Tavolàta, How to Cook a Wolf, Anchovies and Olives, Staple and Fancy, Ballard Pizza Company, Rione XIII, and Bar Cotto), for innovative food and wine at the beautiful home of KCLS Foundation Board Member Kim Moen and her husband Eric, on the shores of Lake Washington in Bellevue.  Ethan was named one of the 2008 Best New Chefs in America by Food & Wine magazine and is a multiple James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef Northwest. Each guest will receive a copy of Ethan Stowell’s New Italian Kitchen  for personalization.  Event is limited to twelve (12) guests.

Grand Dame of the Detective Story and Maven of Mysteries, J.A. (Judy) Jance throws open the doors to her marvelous Bellevue home to entertain twenty (20) guests for a literary evening featuring a wonderful catered dinner. Each guest will receive a signed copy of her new book in the Ali Reynolds series, Deadly Stakes.

 

Swirl, Sip & Savor

Monday, August 19 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm - $100 per person

Join Carol Frieberg author of Swirl, Sip & Savor:  Northwest Wine and Small Plate Pairings at Bookwalter Winery tasting room in Woodinville. Enjoy some of her small plate appetizers paired with Bookwalter wines selected by wine expert Andy Perdue. Carol’s books celebrate the Pacific Northwest and its fresh and local bounty. Hosted by KCLS Foundation Board Member Kathy Brown and KCLS Trustee Robin McClelland, each of the fourteen (14) attendees will receive a copy of Carol’s book for personalization.

 

Go Hollywood with Seattle’s Rising Star Josh Henderson

Wednesday, August 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm - $150 per person

Join Josh Henderson, the founding chef and owner of Skillet Street Food and Skillet Diner, at his brand new cheeseburger and whiskey tavern: the iconic Hollywood Tavern in Woodinville.  Hosted by KCLS Foundation Board Member Dean Smith and his wife Shari Wetherby, this intimate gathering of twelve (12) people features food, drinks, and each guest will receive a copy of Josh’s new book The Skillet Cookbook: A Street Food Manifesto.

 

Go Sounders!

Followed by the Sounders Game at 7 pm

Scarves up!  Meet Chad Mack and Richard Morrison, the author and photographer of Seattle Sounders FC: the Birth of a Tradition, a book that chronicles the excitement of the Sounders through photographs and commentary.  This salon is hosted by Emily Rollins, KCLS Foundation Board Member, in the exclusive Coaches Loft at Century Link stadium.  Chad and Rick will share their once in a lifetime experience and autograph a copy of their book for each of the twenty (20) guests.  Refreshments will be served and guests will receive tickets to attend the Seattle Sounders vs. Chicago Fire match.
