Children Now
Children Now is a nonpartisan organization recognized nationally for its policy expertise and up-to-date information regarding children. The targeted audience is broad, reaching out to parents, lawmakers, citizens, business, media and community leaders.

Connect for Kids
The Benton Foundation working with other partners is an outstanding resource to parents and adults working with children. The Early Years is a featured section. The site may be searched by state and includes links to many child-serving organizations.

David and Lucile Packard Foundation: The Future of Children
The Future of Children, published twice annually, provides timely information on major issues related to children's well-being, with special emphasis on providing objective analysis and evaluation and translating existing knowledge into effective programs and policies. The targeted audience includes public policy makers, legislators, business leaders, and professionals in both the public and private sectors.

Educational Media: Screen Time and Literacy (webcast)

HHS Fatherhood Initiative
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this Initiative addresses the importance of fathers in the lives of their children from infancy through adolescence. Provides related information on programs and resources.

KidSource Online

Information for parents on child health, education, and parenting topics. Includes easy to access information on recalls of consumer products.

National Black Child Development Institute

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the National Black Child Development Institute exists to protect the quality of life of African American Children and their families. Their programs include an Early Childhood Leadership Resource Center and Parent Empowerment Project.

National Center for Children in Poverty
National report reveals how Washington State fares in caring for young children and families. This is one of the studies NCCP provides. Includes state-specific findings from map and tract on state initiatives for young children and families. Includes other relevant information.

Health and Safety


American Academy of Pediatrics
The AAP is an organization of 55,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical sub-specialists and surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Site provides access to AAP documents on literacy promotion, early learning partnerships, television viewing and the effect on child development, early brain development (includes Powerpoint presentation), and other topics related to child development.

Bright Future
Bright Futures provides a practical developmental approach to providing health supervision for children of all ages. Partnership of HRSA, Health Resources & Services Administration (US Dept. of Health and Human Services); NCEMCH, National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (Georgetown University); and Pfizer Pediatric Health.

Child Care Bureau - U.S. Department of Health and Human Service

The Child Care Bureau administers federal funds to states, territories, and tribes to assist low-income families in accessing quality child care for children while parents work or participate in education or training. The Child Care Bureau advocates for high quality, affordable child care for all children.

Child Care Resources for King County
Outstanding local child care site with directory and parenting information, such as how to choose a child care provider, types of child care, child care rates, and child care for infants.

Child Care Health Program 
Offers health promotion and disease prevention services to child care facilities throughout Seattle and King County.

Department of Early Learning
Washington State’s Department of Early Learning (DEL) provides information and resources for parents and those who care for and teach young children, including essential information on selecting child care, requirements for child care providers, Washington laws and staff contacts.

National Child Care Information Center
The Child Care Bureau was established in 1995 to improve the quality, availability and affordability of child care on a national basis. This site is supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, and Child Care Bureau.

Washington State Child Care Resource and Referral Network
A network of 17 community-based, private, non-profit child care resource and referral agencies across Washington. The Network provides training and technical assistance to parents, child care providers, employers, and the community. Provides extensive links to directories, foundations, state and national organizations.

You Have a Choice: A Guide to Finding Quality Child Care

Licensed Child Care Information System
The Licensed Child Care Information System (LCCIS) provides basic information about licensed child carefacilities, including information about licensing complaints that are found to be valid (proven); it does not report CPS information. If you do not find the provider that you are looking for, the business could be unlicensed.
