KPLU School of JazzKPLU School of Jazz

KCLS is partnering with KPLU to bring you some of Western Washington’s finest high school bands and jazz professionals, featured on the KPLU School of Jazz:
Volume 5.

You can download any of the individual tracks listed below by clicking on the links or place a hold on the 2008, 2007 and 2006 and CDs.

Volume 5 tracks will not be available for download until Tuesday, May 19th.

This year’s featured titles, bands and jazz professionals are:

All In- Inglemoor High School
Extremely rhythmic version of the Lennie Niehaus tune with a rousing finish

Body and Soul - Garfield High School Jazz Ensemble
This classic tune remains a favorite of jazz musicians

Cerulean Sky - Shorewood Jazz Band
A ballad with exotic timbres and an exotic palette of rich colors, and a mixture of jazz and classical elements.

Count Bubba - South Whidbey High School Jazz Band
A monster-of-a-swinger with a wonderful riff-based theme and a shout chorus.

D Bop - Mountlake Terrace Jazz Ensemble 1
Features solos by guest artist, Seattle drummer and educator Steve Korn.

Deep Green And - Edmonds Woodway Jazz Band 1
An original tune composed by guest artist, trombonist Chris Stover.

Fly - Roosevelt Jazz Band
An original tune written by the band’s lead trombonist Andy Clausen.

The Mad Hatter Rides Again - North Thurston High School Band
A playful, energetic tune displaying a wry sense of humor.

Spanish Fire - Stadium High School Jazz Band
Featuring a Rumba Flamenco groove that really cooks.

Take the A Train - Squalicum Jazz Band
One of the tunes mostly associated with Duke Ellington’s band.

Tones for Joan's Bones - Mercer Island High School Jazz Band
A new take on the Chick Corea composition.

Two to Tango - Newport Jazz Band 1
Big band music with enticing Brazilian cadences.
