TechTutor Program

TechTutor

What is the TechTutor Program?

computersThe TechTutor Volunteer Program is an opportunity for you to teach others how to use personal computers and the Internet in KCLS libraries. By recruiting enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers to help with computer training, the TechTutor Program helps KCLS achieve the goal of providing free and relevant computer instruction to patrons.

What Qualifications Do I Need?

Your enthusiasm to become a TechTutor is the most important thing. Volunteers should have basic knowledge in the area where they plan to teach, but you don't need to be a computer expert. What's most important is attitude: patience, kindness and the ability to explain computer information in a simple, clear fashion. TechTutors must be at least 18 years old to participate.

KCLS offers considerable flexibility in scheduling classes and One-on-One Assistance sessions. Classes are taught during weekdays, weekends and evenings. Scheduling preferences vary from library to library; so one library may prove a better match for your schedule than another.

You can find training materials on the following web pages:

How Do I Become a TechTutor Volunteer?*

1. Click here to view the current TechTutor Volunteer Opportunities; wait lists exist for some libraries.

2. When you are ready to apply, click the Sign Up button to the right of the Volunteer Opportunities list and fill out the online application as completely as possible. *Please make a note of your username and password. If you need to complete your volunteer application at a later time go to www.myvolunteerpage.com, log-in using the credentials you created and click on the My Profile tab.

4. PRINT the KCLS Signature Forms and return your completed forms to KCLS. KCLS volunteers must be able to pass a Request for Conviction Criminal Background History Record (RCW 10.97). We are unable to accept applicants with any form of conviction for abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.
