JAWS (Job Access with Speech)

JAWS is a software program that transforms a personal computer and a speech synthesizer into a talking computer system allowing low vision users to search for library materials and indexes available throughout the entire library system.

Xerox Reading Edge and Magnification Equipment

Xerox Reading Edge is a machine developed by the inventor Ray Kurzweil to read text. The machine scans books (or magazines or newspapers) and converts the text to synthesized speech in seconds and then reads it aloud to you. Any item can be easily enlarged with new Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) equipment presently available. CCTVs allow you to enlarge written material or photos to the size best suited for you. Depending on your needs, you can select from several magnifications as well as normal and reverse image modes.
