KCLS is not responsible for damage to equipment that occurs while using library-owned material.

Loan Periods

Most Media Equipment*** 1 day

Renewals

Except for Downloads and Media Equipment, you may renew items that are not on hold for another borrower up to two times.


*Television seasons and educational series purchased after December 20, 2011. Look for the 28-day label on the box.

**Feature films and documentaries; additional copies of sets first purchased before December 20, 2011.

***Use in the library only.

Fines

Books, audio/video materials, magazines

10¢ per item, per day
$3.00 maximum per item

Most Media Equipment $5 per item, per day
$50.00 maximum per item

You will be charged a replacement cost for items that are 30 days overdue.

You may not borrow items if you owe more than $10.00.

If you owe $25 or more, your account may be sent to a collection agency.

FAQ

How do I borrow materials?
Bring your library card and PIN to Self-Checkout or the checkout desk, or provide photo ID with a birth date.

Where can I return library materials?
Return items to external book drops or Self Check-in (at some libraries), which prints optional receipts.

How do I request items not in the KCLS catalog?
Complete a Purchase Suggestions & Interlibrary Loan form.

Why have I been contacted by a collection agency?
Bill notices are mailed to accounts owing $25 or more.

If you still owe $25 or more 30 days after the notice has been sent, your account will be sent to a collection agency and you will be charged a non-refundable $5.00 fee.

Which fines or fees are refundable?

Return eligible items with a receipt and file a request within 1 year of payment for a refund.

Refundable:

  • Hardcover Books
  • Magazines
  • Complete and playable audio/video materials, multi-part sets, Players, and kits

Nonrefundable:

  • Overdue fines
  • Parts or pieces of audio/video sets or kits (e.g., single CDs, DVD cases, CD or DVD jackets)
  • Paperback books
  • Non-cataloged items that do not display a specific title in your account (e.g., Choice Reads, board books or comic books)
  • Damaged, unusable items, including items requiring rebinding

 

How do I sign up for due date or hold alerts?

Contact staff, or sign up for Library Elf. Telephone renewal is temporarily unavailable.
