Reader Review FAQs
What is Reader Reviews?
Reader Reviews is the name of a collaborative database that allows patrons to write reviews about library materials and read reviews written by others. The database includes reviews written by library patrons throughout the United States.
Is a library card required to read or write reviews?
No. Patrons may read reviews without logging in to their library account.
Do I need to download software to write a review?
No. The online service is provided by ChiliFresh, Inc. For the service to work properly, however, you must allow pop-ups from ChiliFresh.com.
How do I write a review?
To begin writing reviews, patrons must create a unique login (nickname) and password. Please refer to the user tutorial for full details on how to do this.
Why do I have to register with an email address to write a review?
The service is based on a collaborative database of reviews submitted by library patrons from all over the United States. The email address is collected ONLY to maintain a unique record for each reviewer. In addition, it’s the only way that a user may reset their password if they have forgotten it.
What are the guidelines for writing a review?
When writing reviews, patrons are asked to agree to the following Terms and Conditions:
The King County Library System (KCLS) reserves the right to edit or remove reviews. Reviews may not include profanity, obscenities, spiteful remarks, personal information, URLs or email addresses. Also, you may not reveal crucial plot elements or spoil the ending for others.
How soon can I expect my review to be displayed?
A group of KCLS staff will make every effort to post reviews within 48 hours of submission.
How will KCLS ensure that the reviews will be appropriate?
As the reviews are written by an array of readers, there is a risk that inappropriate content may be written. Therefore, each review is moderated by a team of KCLS staff. Reviews that contain inappropriate content will not be posted.
What about reviews written by patrons of other libraries?
Since we display reviews written by library patrons from all over the United States, we will only display reviews that have also been previously moderated by a staff member at another library.
What if I see inappropriate content?
If you find a review that you consider inappropriate, please report it to KCLS staff via the Contact Us form. Please include a link to the content in question.
Where are the reviews stored?
The database of reviews is stored on remote servers, which frees KCLS staff from being concerned with maintenance and other issues commonly associated with online collaborative databases.
