Starting and Saving Your Work

Save a file

The 'P' drive file storage on KCLS PCs is being discontinued, but you can now save your files temporarily to the KCLS computer "My Documents" folder (note: all files will be erased from the computer at the end of your session).

cloudFiles can then be transferred to:
1. A USB Flash Drive
2. An email attachment to yourself or
3. Storage on a cloud service. KCLS recommends use of clouds services, such as Google Docs or Windows Live SkyDrive, for free long-term file storage. 'Cloud' services refers to saving files or using software on the Internet. More information about saving to the 'cloud'.

If you do not wish to save your work on a Flash drive, you can save your work to My Documents folder of the computer and then upload the document(s) to the cloud or email it to yourself.

Did you know you could also go to your cloud account and start a document directly from there and not have to save/upload from the library computer?

See our HELP pages when you log on for detailed instructions to get started using an Internet Storage (cloud) space.

Google Docs and Windows Live Skydrive include online software for creating and editing documents.  Please note: editing files in Google Docs is limited to files created or converted in the Google Docs file format.  You can upload Office file formats (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), but you may have to download the file to your local computer, edit and re-upload to Google Docs for long-term storage. To download documents from Google Docs you can right click on the document name in the document list, or you can open the document and choose download from the file menu.

Color prints, available at all libraries; require three (3) printing-units per page which are deducted from the weekly allotment of 75.

Printing a Document

Public computer printing is directed to a network printer. Claim your print jobs using your library card number and PIN at a Print Release station. The print job can be accessed for up to 4 hours. Jobs that have been printed can be re-printed until closing that same day.

No network printing is provided for personal wireless laptops at this time. Patrons must save to a storage device or to the cloud, and then use a public computer to claim the print job.

Custom print is not available. Staff will assist patrons in finding commercial printing businesses that provide these services.
