Library Cards
Welcome to the King County Library System! With a KCLS library card, you can borrow materials, get free access to subscription online databases, reserve a PC to use within a KCLS library and much more.
New Patrons:
Fill out a KCLS library card application online. Your new library card will be mailed to you within 14 days.
To confirm your eligibility for a KCLS library card, see the Areas Served by KCLS and Borrowing Outside of KCLS Service Areas pages.
The first time you use your new card at the library or before you set your first PIN or use our eBook service, you will be asked to present photo ID with birth date (e.g., a driver's license, Washington State ID card, or passport) and identification that verifies your current address (e.g., the letter you receive with your card).

Lost or Stolen Card
Library patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their library cards. If your library card is lost or stolen, please notify the library immediately. You can call the Answer Line (800.462.9600) or your local library. Staff will deactivate your card so that it cannot be used. You are then welcome to apply for a new card.
Closing Your Library Account
In order to close a library account simply communicate with the King County Library System that you wish to do so. Please notify us of your name and barcode number or your name and address; contact any KCLS branch location, call Answerline at 425.462.9600 or 800.462.9600 or fill out and online comment card.
Get a Library PIN!
(Personal Indentification Number)
What is my PIN and why do I need it?
Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) allows you to access your library account information through the library catalog and place holds.
ADVANTAGES:
To further safeguard the use of your library card. The PIN insures that you are the rightful owner of the card.
When you phone in or don’t have your Library Card or ID with you, you will need a PIN.
HOW DO YOU DO IT?
Simply let staff at the Check Out desk know the 4 numbers you would like to use for a PIN! For your protection, if you forget your PIN, we’ll need to see photo ID. You may also set and change your PIN though the My Account tab in the catalog. Once you have your PIN, you’ll sign on to PCs and self-checkout with your PIN.
If you misplaced your PIN or have forgotten it, visit your local library
with a Picture ID.
If you have never had a PIN, you may set up your first PIN by using Self
Checkout, or through “My Account” in the catalog.
If you registered online and want to set your first PIN, please see New Patrons above.
If you wish to change your pin you may go to “My Account” to change it.
