History

1924: Opening of Carnation's first library, funded by the Tolt Civic Improvement Club's formal silver teas, rummage sales, and magazine subscription sales

1947: Carnation contracts with KCLS for library service

1966: A bond issue, donations, and federal funds provide $88,000 for a new building and collection

1972: Nine of the original 28 members of the Tolt Civic Improvement Club attend the opening celebration of the current Carnation Library

1991: Renovation complete

1992: KCLS annexation

2004: Carnation voters pass the Capital Bond measure at the highest passage rate of all cities served by KCLS

2009: 500 people (about a quarter of the city's population) attend the opening of the new 5,000 square-foot Carnation Library
