Art Displays at the Valley View Library

Bench The bench in front of the Valley View Library has a plaque “With appreciation from the Audrey Hill Memorial Fund and Friends of the Valley View Library.” Audrey Hill (1929-2001) was the Lead Library Assistant at the Valley View Library for many years. She was known for her excellent customer service, patience, and kindness. A memorial fund was established in her name and the funds were used to purchase the bench. Audrey’s family continues to live near the library.

The globe behind the reference desk (photo, right) was given “In memory of John Mathison, 1914-1997.” The fountain (photo, bottom left) near the magazines was given “In memory of John Mathison, 1914-1997.” The fountain still works, but was turned off because children were treating it as a water fountain. John Mathison was a regular, much beloved library patron. John’s wife, Natalie, was a member of the Valley View Library Advisory Board, and asked that John’s memorial donations be given to the Valley View Library for the purpose of buying art in his name. The art was selected and purchased in the Gig Harbor area by a Valley View Library staff member and John’s wife, Natalie.

The “Teen” skateboard (photo, bottom center) hanging in the Teen area was designed by KCLS Architecture and Interior Design Coordinator, David Scott-Risner.

The stained glass (photo, bottom right) window hanging by the computers is called “Valley View.” It was made my Michael Kennedy and presented to the Valley Ridge Library Guild and King County Library System in 1984.
