Library Volunteers
![]() |
Library volunteers other than Study Zone, NetMasters, Citizenship, Talk Time and Outreach volunteers are recruited, selected and managed directly from the community libraries. These general Library Volunteers help KCLS staff meet patron needs in many ways, including:
- Using a list to find and pull items from the stacks to fulfill holds requests
- Shelving holds for patrons to pick up
- Assisting staff with programs
- Helping patrons use self-check out and self-check in technology
- Assisting with a variety of other support tasks.
KCLS is working toward posting volunteer opportunities and contact information for each library. Please watch for more information to come.
If you do not see any opportunities specifically for your preferred location, here are some tips:
- Visit the library and ask in person about volunteering there. Often opportunities come up so quickly that they are not posted.
- Check out listings for “All KCLS Libraries,” such as Words on Wheels, which need volunteers at every location.
- It is possible that not all KCLS opportunities appear on the current openings page. To see more KCLS opportunities, click on one of the listing titles to enter the United Way of King County volunteer database, click on “Volunteer,” and search for your preferred library.
