Artwork at the Woodmont Library

Brown Paper Bags, 2007, by Chris Jordan
This piece is a 60”x80” digital photo depicting 1.14 million brown paper supermarket bags, the number used in the U.S. every hour, and is part of Jordan’s Running the Numbers series.  The series looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics; each image portrays a specific quantity of something consumed by Americans, e.g. 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption).

Willow (Undercurrent) 5, by Katy Stone

This piece is painted steel and acrylic paint on Duralar, which the artist has cut and formed into a large sculptural piece that hangs delicately off the wall above the teen area of the library.  Stone constructs and assembles multilayered works inspired by organic and metaphysical forms.
