Computers

Woodmont Library has 6 computers for access to the library's online catalog/online databases only and 18 computers for Internet access with filtered access options and Microsoft Office programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher.

A KCLS library card is needed to reserve a computer.

Patrons may access Woodmont Library computers up to 2 hours per day. Computers are available for two-hour, one-hour, half-hour and 15-minute use.

The Children's area includes 2 filtered Internet terminals and 2 special workstations with educational computer programs for preschool aged children.

Patrons may reserve an Internet computer in advance up to 3 days, at the library, online or by phone at 253-839-0121. There is a 10-minute grace period for reservations.

The Woodmont Library offers a free wireless connection for people with laptops and other wireless devices. The library system's wireless networks are open to all visitors and do not require any special logins, passwords, nor encryption. Due to the variety of computer systems, library staff cannot help visitors to configure their own equipment.

The Woodmont Library has 4 laptops available to check out for patrons 10 years and older. Laptops are to be used in library only. No laptop checkout if a patron has fines in excess of $10.00; patron must provide a current driver's license, ID card or current student ID at time of checkout.

Woodmont Library offers free beginning and intermediate computer classes on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet and more. Register online   or call 253.839.0121 beginning of the month.

Meeting Rooms & Equipment

 The purpose of the library meeting room is to provide space for programs either sponsored by the library or initiated by the public for cultural, educational, informational, recreational or civic purposes.

Woodmont Library has a meeting room that is wheelchair-accessible and has a maximum occupancy of 50 people.

The room can be booked online, in-person, or by calling the library at 253-839-0121 up to 2 months in advance. Groups may use the meeting room once per month. The meeting room is free of charge to public groups holding meetings during regular library hours.

Equipment available for meeting room use includes TV/VCR/DVD player.  The room has a screen and a white board also.

Kitchenette has a sink with running water (no microwave). Groups serving food and/or beverages must provide their own dishes, cups, utensils, and napkins. All groups using library kitchen equipment are responsible for cleaning it up.

One study room (accommodating two people) is also available for private study or testing. The room may be scheduled for the current week at the Reference Desk or by phone. If not scheduled, it may be used on a first-come, first-served basis. Room may be used for up to two hours at a time.

 

Collections & Resources

The Woodmont Library collection includes a variety of materials: books, videos, DVDs, books on tape and CD, music CDs, newspapers, magazines.

Special collections in the library include Choice Reads with new paperbacks, Large Print books, College and Career Center, Consumer Information.

Foreign language collections include books and magazines in Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Korean and Vietnamese.

Woodmont Library has an ESL collection with books and a selection of audiovisual materials for the needs of beginning adult readers, students of English as a Second Language, and Literacy/ESL tutors.

Automated Self Check In available inside and outside the entrance.

Food for Thought Café located in the copy center.

For Teens

Grades 6-12

Woodmont Library provides resources and services for its young adult patrons.

Resources
Library resources for teens include books, downloadable & audio books, magazines, and graphic novels. Librarians welcome the opportunity to offer reading recommendations or help a student find research materials.

Homework Help
Study Zone volunteers are available after school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to give students in-person help with
their homework. Please contact the library for the current Study Zone schedule. If the tutors are not present or the student prefers to receive help online, Live Homework Help provides one-on-one tutoring sessions through the KCLS webpage from 2pm to midnight.

Game On!
Middle school and high school students are invited to play video games at the library on Tuesdays from 3-5pm. Play Guitar Hero, DDR, Wii and Game Cube in Woodmont’s meeting room.
