STARS Workshops


Attend free STARS (State Training & Registry System) workshops for parents and those who work in childcare and early education.

Programs

Parents and caregivers are invited to attend free STARS (State Training & Registry System) workshops. STARS is a career development system for those who work in childcare and early education. Persons requiring STARS-approved continuing education credit must bring their STARS registration number the day of the workshop to receive credit. Register online for classes or by calling the community libraries hosting the events listed below. Registration begins two weeks prior to the workshop. Adults only!

Please note: seats are released to waiting list attendees fifteen minutes after beginning of class.

A Change for the Better

Presented by Dr. Patricia Nan Anderson.
What can you do about the problems you see in your community and within the families you serve? How can you be an advocate around issues such as poverty, over-protectiveness, lack of attention, child abuse? Discover ways to inspire real change for children and families.
Provides 2 STARS credit hours in Professional Development and Leadership.

Presented by Laura Chandler.
Learn to teach young children the connections between all creatures, from worms to humans, and to the environment. This workshop will include resources, art projects and games.
Provides 2 STARS credit hours in Curriculum and Learning Environments.

Fun and Learning Through Storytelling

Presented by Dr. Margaret Read MacDonald.
Discover ways to use storytelling as a tool for early literacy. Learn how to tell seven short audience-participation folktales, then connect those tales to your classroom curriculum.
Provides 2 STARS credit hours in Curriculum and Learning Environments or Program Planning and Development.

Tech 101 – Using Microsoft Word and the Internet

Presented by Candice Hoyt, Toolbox for Teaching.
Your computer can be a resource for curriculum ideas and planning. Learn basic search skills and ways to use photos, clipart and images to create student documentation, complete curriculum forms and develop newsletters. You may bring your own laptop or tablet that includes Microsoft Office software, but laptops will also be provided.
Provides 2 STARS credit hours in Curriculum and Learning Environments or Families and Community Partnerships.
